Is CowriePay custodial, and who holds the keys?
CowriePay is a custodial wallet-as-a-service. Funds sit in CowriePay-managed wallets, and we handle key custody and signing, so you provision and use wallets entirely through the API with no keys to handle yourself. Withdrawals are protected by an allow-list, cooling-off, four-eyes approval and value-aware step-up.
Which chains and assets are supported?
USDT on TRON, BNB Chain and Ethereum, plus USDC and EURC on Ethereum, and native assets such as ETH and BNB. Our focus is TRON-first, where stablecoins actually move in Africa.
Is CowriePay compliant, and what AML controls are in place?
Compliance is built into the platform. The origin address of every deposit is screened against sanctions lists before it is credited or swept, and if screening cannot run the funds are held. We run KYB with ultimate-beneficial-owner identification at the start of the relationship, keep a full audit trail on every sensitive action, and can generate suspicious-transaction report worksheets to complete and file with national financial intelligence units (CENTIF in Benin, NFIU in Nigeria).
Can I settle stablecoins to local currency such as XOF or NGN?
Today, funds settle to an on-chain address you or your recipient controls, in USDT, USDC or EURC. Converting stablecoins to local currency such as XOF or NGN is on the roadmap through COWRIEX liquidity.
How fast can I go live?
You build in the Sandbox immediately: create an account, confirm your email, and you get a cpk_test_ key, with no waiting and no setup fee. Build on real testnets with a built-in faucet. Going live is gated on KYB only: complete KYB, then switch to a cpk_live_ key. Same base URL, same code.
How does pricing work?
Simple and transparent. There are no setup fees and the Sandbox is free. You pay a per-transaction fee on live, on-chain volume; network fees are covered by your CowriePay fees, with a flat per-chain fee on withdrawals. Current rates are shared during onboarding.
How am I notified of deposits and payouts?
Through HMAC-signed webhooks on every state change (DEPOSIT_DETECTED, DEPOSIT_CONFIRMED, DEPOSIT_SWEPT, WITHDRAWAL_PROCESSING, WITHDRAWAL_CONFIRMED, WITHDRAWAL_FAILED) and in the dashboard in real time. Deliveries retry with backoff and are logged, so you never lose an event.
Is there a test environment?
Yes. A full Sandbox on real blockchain testnets (TRON Nile, BSC testnet, Ethereum Hoodi), with a built-in faucet to pre-fund your test wallets in one API call, so you validate the full money flow without chasing public faucets.
